"In his music, presences of Michel Doneda and Daunik Lazro certainly occur, but their synthesis is striking ... and already, the clarity of sentences, this poetic adventure in sound, rhythmic precision without which all would be in vain ... and a great calm in a trembling soul, demanding. One way to be there very strong and also at the same time in a adventurous flight, dreaming." Beñat Achiary
Since his beginning as a double bass player with the band “Lafé Bémé” the itinerary of Jordi Cassagne is a strolling over the course of his artistic collaborations. Immerged into early music and the study of the violone sometimes, or going with the flow of jazz and improvised music, he explores different musical aesthetics.
His musical projects, becoming more and more personal, gave him the chance to perform in prestigious stages such as “Jazz in Marciac”, “Jazz à Vienne”, "North Sea Jazz Festival", "Nederlands Dans Theater", "Holland Festival", "Les Ethiopiques de Mars" , "Uzeste's Hestajada de las Arts"; or “Tudo é Jazz” in Ouro Preto in Brazil. During those last years he had the opportunity to share his music in France, Nertherlands, Italy, Spain and Cape-Verde. In 2008 he started studying at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Jazz Double Bass in May 2012. He is now enrolled in the Master program of the same conservatory where he is combining Jazz and Early Music studies. |
Matthieu Lebrun
Matthieu Lebrun is building a sound universe in constant expansion.
The sounds of his saxophones, sometimes rough, sometimes very tender, tell a story and invite us to his poetic journey. Fiery, he however knows to be mature. He gained this maturity by meeting musicians such as Bernard Lubat and Beñat Achiary. He shared stage with Louis Sclavis, Michel Portal, François Corneloup, Didier Lasserre, Mathias Pontévia ... He is a member of Bengalifère, HiruAlde (Afro-Basque), Chambre Quinze (jazz-rock/improvisation) Polder (minimalist acoustic pop), MST (jazz-rock/improvisation), duet with Julen Achiary. Matthieu also play solo. He is also a member of the collective "Agence d'intervention géopolitique (formerly " Le temps d'une île ") and "Improzac" (improvisation). He is not limited to music and is regularly asked to performances and multidisciplinary creations. In 2012, after obtaining a degree in musicology at the University of Bordeaux III, he moved to Brussels where he now follows composition courses at the Royal Conservatory. |
In 2010, he creates his own octet "The Espluméor Chamber Ensemble" which is the realisation of a compositional work as well as a research on the dimensions of space and time in music perception. This ensemble, composed by a string quartet featuring a baroque violin and a double bass, a flute, a guitar and percussions is the perfect opportunity to explore relations between written and improvised music and the combinations of timbres.
Jordi is alreading involved in several musical adventures: 66Whales, Alban Claret Trio, Lafé Bémé, Mitchto la Pompe, Rouge Nereid, Yaniv Schonfeld "Cadavre" project, MST octet & Benat Achiary, Bengalifère, Boleros de Parranda...
